Winding silk bobbins in Istanbul

Here I am in a fantastic little weaving shop, hidden away behind the Hagia Sophia, winding silk bobbins. It was one of those pleasant discoveries as you casually stroll along back streets. He is a long-time silk weaver; his father and grandfather also silk weavers. They had an entire presentation of silk, from the grub to the cloth, to show how they farmed and obtained the silk. The shop was full of items ranging from men's silk shirts to exquisite scarves and shawls and handspun and handwoven by the family; some of the silk as fine as spider-silk. We had a good 'yarn' about weaving and he invited me to wind some bobbins for him. And, of course, we purchased two beautiful silk scarves.
