Men’s clothing and dress was, on the whole, more functional. Men wore a white linen shirt and trousers made from home-spun cotton. Breeches were made from white or black broadcloth and decorated with woollen braids. A waistcoat, made from black broadcloth was then placed over and tucked into a wide woollen sash (usually woven on a smaller inkle-loom). This outfit was teamed with multi-coloured woollen sock and sandles of pigskin or cowhide. Often, when doing heavy work, the legs were wrapped with rectangular pieces of broadcloth.
